What DEJA is

DEJA is a free Chrome browser extension that marks near-duplicate and previously seen posts on LinkedIn and X (Twitter) using local fingerprints. It is a spam and duplication filter for social feeds, not a truth engine or AI-content police.

Data we handle

  • Visible post text on LinkedIn and X feeds — read in the page to build fingerprints and show badges.
  • Fingerprints (hashes, simhash, template signatures, optional embeddings) stored in chrome.storage.local on your device.
  • Settings you choose (sites, marks, density, optional API key).
  • Local counters for the popup UI (how many posts were remembered or marked).

What we do not do (local mode)

  • We do not send page content to DEJA servers (there are none).
  • We do not sell browsing data or use it for advertising.
  • We do not store full post bodies long-term.
  • We do not scan LinkedIn profile sections (experience, honors, interests, etc.) as posts.

Optional AI mode

If you enable AI in settings and paste an API key, DEJA may send short snippets of post text to the embeddings endpoint you configure (default: OpenAI) to improve near-duplicate detection. The key is stored only in local extension storage. Turn AI off to stay fully offline.

Consent

On first launch, DEJA asks you to accept before scanning feeds. You can clear memory from the popup or options page, or remove the extension to delete all stored data.

Limited use

User data is used only to provide DEJA's disclosed feed-filter features (duplicate / previously-seen marks). It is not used for personalized ads or transferred to third parties for advertising.
